Alias is a rather unique television series that incorporates high drama with a bit of what might best be called science fiction along the way for added measure. Broadcast on the ABC television network in the United States from 2001 until 2006, the program starred popular and successful film actress Jennifer Garner in the lead role.
Garner plays the role of Sydney Bristow who is a CIA agent that ends up involved in intricate and very dangerous special assignments. The character of Bristow must conceal her career from her friends and family members. And, as the title of the series suggests, she has to assume aliases with regularity in order to perform her job duties.
The program not only focuses on the professional life of Agent Bristow but also her personal life as well. Throughout the run of the series, her professional and her personal like meshed together and collided on numerous occasions and in surprising ways.
As she pursues the proverbial bad guys, a variety of unusual devices were fashioned for Agent Bristow's use. It is these devices (among other aspects of the show) that saw Alias cross into the science fiction genre in some instances and on some level.
One of the more interesting aspects of the show involved the number of characters and situations that were presented that were not clearly black and white. In other words, as can be seen in the Alias box set, there are many plot lines and characters throughout the show that are not clearly on the “right side” nor clearly on the “wrong side” of the law in each situation. Along these lines, in more than a few instances “good characters” have had to do “bad things” in the furtherance of what they have concluded are honorable objectives throughout the run of the Alias television series.
Alias has been able to be found in some markets in syndication. However, that can be a bit hit and miss at this juncture in time. Therefore, if you are an Alias fan – or if you want to experience the program for the first time yourself – you will want to check out the Alias box set.
During its five year run Alias garnered a loyal following of viewers. Additionally, it received generally positive reviews from the critics both for the acting turned in by its cast as well as the writing associated with the show itself.
