21 Jump Street launched the careers of a number of television stars that continue to enjoy successful careers. 21 Jump Street tells the tale of cutting edge police officers who solve crimes using what might best be called unorthodox tactics and techniques. Each episode that can be found on the 21 Jump Street box set feature high intensity action, faced past dialog and unique camera and cut away techniques. On some level, 21 Jump Street set the standard that was to be utilized in more recent crime dramas such as the CSI franchise.
The main premise of the series was stories that centered around a group of very youthful looking undercover police officers. Oftentimes these police detectives could be found going undercover in settings such as high schools as part of their intense efforts to battle crime. The individual episodes focused not only on the lives of the characters as undercover officers but also incorporated their personal issues and problems as well.
21 Jump Street aired on the oftentimes innovative and cutting edge Fox television network from 1987 until 1991 for a total of just over 100 episodes.
The show garnered a great deal of public attention and generally received high ratings during its run. 21 Jump Street was one of the early Fox television network success stories helping propel that network to where it stands today. The show also made what can best be called “teen idols” out of a good number of the cast members, including Depp and co-star Richard Grieco.
Overall the series also met with decent critical acclaim as well. As was mentioned, it did serve as a launching point for some of the cast members in the show – particularly Depp – who did get high marks from a number of critics along the way.
